Attunement
Attunement:
the particular quality of attention to both what is around us and within us.
The word often is used to describe the ability to tune into others. Before we can tune into others in a truly healthy way, though, we have to be able to tune into ourselves.
The really beautiful thing about the relationship between attunement and creativity is that each feeds the other. The more attuned we are, the more creativity flows. The more creativity flows, the easier it is to tune in.
We begin by simply noticing what is around us. When we notice our surroundings, we become more adept at noticing what is happening within us. This process allows several things to happen. First, we find that the universe is full of bountiful inspiration, and that we can tap into it anytime we need or want. Second, we become more attuned with our own bodies and hearts, so we notice what we need and crave at any given time.
This month’s practices focus on attuning to ourselves and the natural world to create a container for that creativity to flow. When that subtle energy shift occurs, we are inevitably shifting the world around us.
The practices overlap quite a bit. They can be done separately, though if you have a few hours to devote to yourself, doing them together would be a beautiful way to tend to yourself.
There is no audio for the mindfulness practice this month. It is a series of very short exercises that can be done in five minutes or less.
This creativity exercise is one of my very favorites because there is so much creativity baked into just deciding how to embark upon the exercise. If you are so inclined, I’d love for you to bring what you made to our Open Studio Session on Tuesday, April 26 7-8PM CST. We can all be inspired by each other!
